The Institute of Ionosphere is one of the biggest scientific and research centers, where Space and Universe is being researched with the most precise, advanced scientific equipment, that is unique for Eastern Europe. It was built in 1966, in 1971 it had first research results, and in 2001 it was acknowledged as national wealth of Ukraine. There are only 11 similar research centers in the world, and 5 of them are on the territory of the USA.

Institute`s history of origin is very unusual. In 1946, in the former Kharkiv Electro-Technical Institute (modern Kharkiv Polytechnics Institute) was created a department of radio, and the main goal of this department was creation of project of an ionosphere station, and that fact was very interesting for Moscow, so instead of small station big experimental base was built near Kharkiv. The radars` diameters were 100 meters, 30 meters, and there also was radar with heating stand that had 300 meters long antenna. In 1991 experimental base got a name of Institute of Ionosphere.

On the base of the Institute a lot of different science conferences are being held, the main topics are radiotechnics and everything related to receiving and converting signals. Also Institute has its own print “Radio physics and Ionosphere”, where they publish their scientific research results. The Institute actively collaborates with many foreign research centers, and among them is one the best technical institutes in the world – MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
