Marshall Konev`s Height

Memorial complex Marshall Konev`s Height is in Kharkiv Oblast, about 18 km (11 miles) from the city. It used to be an observation point of The Steppe Front commanders Konev, Managarov and Anisimov during World War II, where they were taking important decisions of Belgorod-Kharkov Operation. This is the exact place where Kharkiv Operation (Kharkiv liberation) started in 1943.

 

After war this height became the place of different events that are concerned to Victory Day. In 1980 beautiful obelisk was built by the project of Sova architect. Then, in 2003-2005 was built a huge memorial complex, that consists of chapel, big Wall of Memory with memory desks, renovated obelisk and a big museum.

 

Museum includes 7 halls with total area 425 m2. Museum exposition is unique, as it is built by “parallel show” system, where you can analyze real documents and evidences by yourself and make personal conclusions.

 

Museum halls have 7 different topics:

  • Kharkiv before World War II;

  • Kharkiv in 1941 – in the beginning of War;

  • Kharkiv Oblast in the times of German occupation;

  • Combat operations near Kharkiv in 1942-1943;

  • Kharkiv liberation;

  • Kharkov inhabitants who fought on the fronts of World War II;

  • Hall of Fame.

  • Except 7 main halls, museum has 2 additional halls, where you can see many different exhibitions, connected with Ukraine and Ukraine`s history.
